A survey of the history of the Indian subcontinent, 1526 CE to the present, this course examines the evolution of the states and societies of modern South Asia. Beginning with the question of modernity in the Mughal Empire, proceeding through the rise and fall of the British Empire in India, and continuing into the postcolonial period, this course takes an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the making of modern South Asia.
