Technical Writing for Graduate Students

This course develops the English language skills needed to write a dissertation, journal articles, grant proposals, and related forms of professional technical writing. For some assignments, students may work on projects from courses in their own fields, a part of their dissertation-in-progress, or a projected article for publication. Special attention is given to producing writing that is clear, grammatically correct, in accord with professional stylistic guidelines, and effectively organized. The course is designed for PhD students whose first language is not English but is also open to master’s students and native English speakers who want to improve their writing.
