Health Psychology

This course is concerned with the role of biophsychosocial factors in teh promotion of health, prevention of and treatment of illness, the etiology of illness, and ways to improve the health care system. Students will learn widely studied and empirically supported theories of health behaviors in relation to behavioral risk factors. They will focus on theories, assessement and treatment of the primary behavioral problems encountered within behavioral medicine, such as sleep disorders, sexual dysfunction, high risk sexual behaviors, obesity, eating disorders, chronic pain, substance abuse/dependency, and tobacco addiction.
