INTRODUCTION TO DRAWING

Prerequisite: Not open to those with credit for GAH 1261 or ARTV 1162. Open only to Visual Arts studio majors including: the BFA in Illustration, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, or Visual Communications; the B.A. in Interdisciplinary Visual Arts (VIBA); and the B.A. in Visual Arts K-12 Certification (EDVA). Arts course (A). Students learn basic skills and techniques for drawing from direct observation using subjects such as still life, landscape, and architecture. Emphasis is on the depiction of form, light, and spatial depth, along with accurate proportion, scale, and perspective. Research tools such as thumbnail sketches, sketchbooks, and digital resources are used to develop ideas. Through analyzing drawing compositions, critiques, and classroom discussions, students build vocabulary and deepen their understanding of drawing. Offered each semester. Faculty: Visual Arts Faculty
