VERTEBRATE ANIMAL MOVEMENT

Open to Juniors and Seniors only; other majors may be considered via Permission of Instructor. How do backboned animals walk, run, swim, or fly? This course introduces students to the biomechanics of backboned animal locomotion and posture. After establishing a foundation in scaling, elasticity, strength, and bone properties, students learn about animal movement through hands-on experiments and analysis of real animal locomotion data. This course is intended for a wide range of majors including biology, anthropology, geology, physics, and anyone with an interest in learning how to measure and understand animal movement.
