Organic reaction mechanisms: polar and free radical substitutions, additions, and rearrangements; hydrocarbon functionalities; organic synthesis; and chemical and spectroscopic identification of organic compounds. Laboratory work is included as part of this course offering. The laboratory involves multistep organic synthesis, reaction mechanisms and spectroscopy techniques. THE PREVIOUSLY CO-REQUIRED LABORATORY MEETING HAS BEEN INTEGRATED INTO THE SCHEDULING FOR THIS COURSE. Prerequisites: CHEM 2120 (CHEM II) and CHEM 2125(CHEM II lab) with grade of C- or better in both. Corequisites: None. Restrictions: none.
