PRE-PRACTICUM

This course will provide students with an orientation to the counseling profession and teach students basic skills for writing professional manuscripts for use in clinical settings. The course introduces the profession of counseling, including an overview of the history, professional counseling organizations and issues, major specialties, requirements for licensure, and the ethical and legal issues in counseling. The course includes a laboratory component in which students learn the stages of the counseling process, the basic skills of counseling, tools for writing professional counseling manuscripts, and strategies for research in counseling.
