GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS

This class introduces students to the technology of geographical information systems (GIS). It is a cutting-edge technology needed for all professionals who work in a field that deals with spatial information. This course provides a sophisticated education and training on GIS with the most current and widely used software packages. It is designed for the students who desire for a GIS career and those who use GIS as a tool in their professional fields. It covers GIS principles and concepts, exemplary applications, geodatabase development and management, data analysis and manipulation, problem solving skills and GIS modeling. Students finishing the class are expected to know not only what GIS is and what GIS can do but also how to start a customized GIS project and how to analyze and manipulate GIS data to solve real life problems. Prerequisites: ENVL 2100 AND ENVL 2200 AND ENVL 2400 AND ENVL 2600 with a grade of C or better. Restrictions: Must be enrolled in one of the following majors: Environmental Science (ENSC) / Environmental Studies (ENVL).
