HUMOR'S LOGIC/LAUGHTER'S WISDOM

Not Open to Freshmen. Why do we laugh, and what makes something humorous? This course will explore theories of humor and laughter from Ancient Greece to Contemporary Culture. Through the reading of selected texts, films, art works, and the telling of jokes, we will explore the logic of humor, and ultimately the wisdom of laughter. This course is structured in a lecture/discussion format, requiring note taking, papers and rewrites, student presentations, in class readings, and film viewings, both within and outside the class hours.
