(Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies) This is a historical consciousness course (H). While scholars have documented the impact of race, class, and gender on issues related to crime and criminal justice, the influence of sexuality on crime and criminal justice has yet to be fully recognized. In this course, students learn the effect of sexuality on crime and criminal justice. The course begins with an exploration of the historical construction of gender and sexuality. Then, students examine how the construction of sexuality impacts the definition, engagement in, and response to crime by exploring the experiences of victims and offenders in the criminal justice system.
