PROBABILITY AND STATISTICS I

Basic concepts of probability. Combinations and permutations. Conditional probability and conditional expectation. Random walks. Gambler's ruin problems, and Markov chains. Discrete and continuous random variables. Bivariate and multivariate distributions. Transformations of random variables. Variance, covariance, correlation, and moments and moment generating functions. Prerequisites: MATH 2217 with a grade of C or better, AND MATH 2225 or MATH 3325 or MATH 3323 with a grade of C or better. Corequisites: None. Restrictions: None.
