Description: Newtonian mechanics at an intermediate level, aimed at enabling students to think about physical problems in mathematical terms and to solve such problems using available analytical and state-of-the-art computer-based techniques. Includes particle motion in one dimension; simple harmonic oscillator, damped and forced oscillations; motion in two and three dimensions, conservative forces and potential energy; motion under a central force; many particle systems; nonlinear systems; and Langrang's and Hamilton's Equations. Prerequisites: PHYS 3010 with a grade of C or better and MATH 2216 with a grade of C or better and MATH 3328 with a grade of C or better Corequisites: None Attributes: None
